500 Flags at Fort Bragg
The Coach waves his hand like
A yellow flag at the start of
The Indianapolis 500
His white knuckles under
Brown leather gloves grip
Stainless steel Humvee steering
Wheel defying friction with
Synthetically lubed script
Another tabloid fiction prints
His racing form unto the American
Consciousness loath to
Count the million
Dead Iraqis gone from
Future Texas history books as
He enunciates the small, stale words
Ramrod shoulders squared
"The oil derricks are proud of
Your bloodied sacrifices under
The frigid heavens of Fort Bragg..."
Proverbs 2:6
For the LORD giveth wisdom:
out of his mouth cometh
knowledge and understanding.
