If Wishes Were...



if wishes were eagles then everybody could see clearly how to
vote for their self interest like clean air water and food
and free college skooling teaching no more war gears

if wishes were horses
then paupers wouldn't have to walk barefoot in
the downtowns of any capital city or village

if wishes were bears then all of us could
get fat in the winter and celebrate the warmth
of good company and potato salad ala mode

if wishes were a dime a dozen then
that would be so perfect for every citizen
and non-citizen rubbing elbows and licking their chops and

if  wishes were a reality then
we wouldn't need shrinks or cops or a grand oil party.


PS

if wishes of 299 million Americans come true
then we won't need too much wishing after that.
